Located just two blocks west of the Public Square is one of Galesburg's many historical gems, Hope Cemetery. The graveyard is the final resting place of many of Galesburg's founding fathers and historical figures. Buried there is a soldier from the 54th Massachusetts (the first African-American regiment in American military), a Revolutionary War soldier, and George Washington Gale, the founder of Galesburg.
